The Centre Régional de la Propriété Forestière (CRPF)
A public administrative establishment that represents owners, draws up regional orientations for forestry management, indicating the recommended management methods for different types of forests. It is responsible for producing simple plans for forest property managers obliged to operate in compliance with the forestry code.
Forestry experts
They are the longest-standing operators and there are five of them in Rhône-Alpes (130 in France). This is a regulated independent profession.
Experts manage all operations up to moving the wood on behalf of the forestry owners and act as their advisors in defining management plans and work schedules based on the economic potential of the existing forest populations.
Forestry cooperatives
In Rhône-Alpes, it is COFORET that acts on behalf of owner members pooling resources for procurement, logging and forestry operations.
Associations of Forestry communities
These associations are organised on a departmental, regional, national and European scale to serve the community on forest and wood-related issues. They represent forest communities in their relations with institutions, primarily by drawing up and monitoring forestry policy. Rhône-Alpes has 611 member communities
The Office National des Forêts (French National Forestry Commission)
It is a public establishment with industrial and commercial interests, created in 1964. It directly manages the State forests and on behalf of the forestry regime also manages local authority and other public establishment forests. The ONF employs 1100 workers and State civil servants in Rhône-Alpes.
